Everybody who has never been to the Czwchland and Plague loves them. The Czechs I met in Plague were perhaps the coldest of all Slavic people I have ever known. Customer service was lousy.
Perhaps these are but my bias. I just does not like Plague that become increasingly Western Europe following the influx of Western tourists and investors after 1989. You feel like it is becoming just another Western city.
(Czechs are historically heavily influenced by the Germans, their king was once one of the seven selector of the Holy Roman Emperor, it later became part of Austria-Hungary Empire.)
The Czechland consists of two provinces: Bohemia (where Plague is located) and Moravia. Moravia was poorer but I had nicer memories in its capital Brno, even more in Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia, once part of Czecoslavakia.
Slavic peoples are generally warm and impulsive. If you have the chance to go to Plague, also go eastward to meet other Slavs.
If I have destroyed anyone's imagination of the Czech and Prague, there are two things to balance up: firstly, Its good football team was fantastic in Euro 2004.
Most of all, recalling the Velvet revolution in 1989, the Spring of Plague in 1968 and the Hussite church reform (before Martin Luther and Hus died for it), you would forgive the city and the country for whatever unpleasant experience. It was (and hopefully still is) a very independent-minded and brave people!
